Web registration fees could climb this week
By Columbian Staff June 29, 2010

Fees for registering a website name on the Internet could increase for consumers this week.

VeriSign Inc. which manages the directory of all domain names worldwide, plans to raise its fees for listing .com and .net domains starting July 1.

Companies that sell domain names, such as Vancouver-based Dotster and Arizona-based GoDaddy, will pay $7.34, up 7 percent from $6.86, to register .com domains and $4.65, up 10 percent from $4.23, for .net domains. Registrars may pass that cost on to consumers.

VeriSign said its fee increase will help pay for infrastructure improvements needed to manage increased demand for domain name queries on its system.

Traffic at Verisign has increased from about 2 billion queries per day in the year 2000 to more than 50 billion queries per day in 2010, according to the company.

Alert! Domain Name Prices to increase on July 1

by HARSHAD on JUNE 29, 2010

VeriSign has once again decided to increase the domain name prices. The company is presently managing .com and .net domain name registration for all the registrar companies in the world.

VeriSign always hikes the registry fees for domain names during this time of the year. In the last year, they didn’t make any changes to their pricing system, but this year .com and .net domain name prices will go up by 7% and 10% respectively.

These domain prices are increased at wholesale level, and obviously domain registrar companies are also increasing the prices of these top level domain names. Now, whenever you buy a new .com/.net domain name or renew an old domain name, you will have to pay more.

The domain name prices are scheduled to change from July 1, so be prepared to pay extra money for your web assets. There are only 2 days left to this price hike and many domain registrar companies are marketing attractive offers to buy or renew the domain names before the given date. If you are running an online business, do check out these exclusive offers and deals to save a few bucks.
